As you probably read last month, I love fishing and I am always looking for new opportunities to do so. Last month my parents suggested that we find somebody that knows Lake Lanier and the fish that call it home. After searching for fishing charters around the lake, we decided to go fishing with Captain Clay aboard the Catching Not Fishing Guide Service. When we first went aboard, Captain Clay took us partially across the lake to our first spot. The moment we got there, striped bass started showing up on the fishfinder, and we could see them breaking water around the boat. We lowered our baitfish down to the right depth, and after two minutes, I boated my first striper! It was pretty nice size and fought hard like the redfish that I used to catch in Florida. A few minutes later, I caught some more hard-fighting stripers and boated a large spotted bass. My biggest fish was a 12-pound striper that really tired me out. After catching more striped bass in that one spot for about an hour or so, we moved on to our next fishing spot. Captain Clay took us to the far side of Lake Lanier where after a few minutes, I was able to catch and release many more striped bass. However, the thrill was only about to begin, Captain Clay lowered the bait down once more, and after a few nervous minutes of watching our rods, we had a triple hookup. My dad grabbed one rod and I rushed over to set the hook on another rod, but lost that fish, so I rushed to the other side to set the hook in another fish. This time I had another 12-pound striper and it swam straight down and under the boat. Captain Clay slightly moved the boat into position and my dad and I boated our fish at the same time. His was slightly smaller at 8 or 9 pounds. for the rest of our five hour trip we stopped at different places that held fish and enjoyed more double hookups and many more photo opportunities before releasing every fish. It was great family afternoon on the lake, great weather, good talk, and lots of excitement. Next month: Trout fishing on the river. looking for your stories and pictures!
